Break the Cycle of Frustration in One Sprint

This February and March, we’re offering organizations the opportunity to work with us on a focused engagement with one team to identify what’s really holding them back.

It’s for teams who know something isn’t working and want a clear answer to the urgent question:

“What do we change next?”

Meeting Observation & Recommendations

1

Meeting Observation & Recommendations works over a single sprint.

2

An experienced Mountain Goat trainer observes your team’s key meetings to understand why agile isn’t delivering, and what needs to change.

3

We look at the reality of how your team works, not the version described in a workshop slide deck.

Training Isn’t Always the Answer

Mike Cohn
Mike Cohn, Founder

In our experience, some teams don’t need more training, they need clarity and direction.

Especially today, when the growing pressure on teams is undeniable:

  • Uncertainty makes decisions feel riskier.
  • Time away from delivery is harder to justify.
  • Everyone is busy, but progress still feels slower than it should.

For skilled teams facing these challenges, more training often adds weight without changing outcomes.

We join your team alongside their existing meeting routine, so there’s no additional overhead or time away from delivery.

And we focus on meetings, because this is where collaboration happens, and we can tell you what’s actually getting in the way.

Why Meetings Tell the Real Story

If something isn’t working, it will show up in meetings first.

That’s because true work habits show up in real meetings, under real pressure.

But in the day to day of routine calendar events, it’s easy to forget that meetings determine outcome.

That’s because this is where:

  • Priorities are set
  • Decisions are made
  • Collaboration happens

And bad habits can compromise all three areas.

Teams and leaders are often too close to their own habits to see what’s really happening. Even experienced coaches can get pulled into context, politics, and justifications.

That’s why we designed Meeting Observation and Recommendations.

While training teaches what Scrum should look like, observation shows how it's actually being practiced

How It Works

We work with one team and observe a single set of core Scrum meetings over the course of a sprint, including:

Sprint Planning

Sprint Review

Sprint Retrospective

Backlog Refinement

A recorded Daily Standup

These are your team’s existing meetings.

We don’t add new sessions or ask people to step away from delivery. Most observations last between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on the meeting and how your team already works.

Our role is to observe, not intervene. We’re there to understand how decisions are made, how collaboration really happens, and where effort is being lost, without changing the dynamic of the meeting itself.

We observe what actually happens, not what’s supposed to happen.

Clear Outcomes You Can Act On

Results Call

At the end of the sprint, we bring everything together in a focused follow-on call.

In that session, we walk through what we observed, explain the patterns that matter most, and outline clear recommendations for what to change first. The call can include whoever you feel needs to be involved, for example, the team, a Scrum Master, or relevant leaders.

Recommendations Report

You’ll also receive a written summary of the findings and recommendations, so you have something concrete to share, reflect on, and act on after the engagement ends.

At the end of the engagement, you’ll have:

A clear diagnosis of what’s holding the team back

Honest, practical recommendations grounded in real behaviour

A shared understanding leaders and teams can act on immediately

You’ll know what’s getting in the way, and what to change first.

The Framework Behind the Observation

We use a structured observation framework developed from years of working with Scrum teams across different contexts.

For each meeting, we look for a defined set of patterns and behaviours — the things that consistently support effective collaboration and delivery, and the things that work against it.

This framework keeps feedback grounded in what actually happened in the room, not abstract ideals.

Free Your Team’s Capacity

We start with a simple assumption:

Your team is already capable, skilled, and working hard.

Bad meetings can weigh good teams down, and our goal is to show you how to remove the constraints that are holding your team back.

Is It Right for Your Team?

Meeting Observation & Recommendations is a short, focused engagement.

We work with one team at a time. The investment is $5,000, and availability is limited for February and March.

If you want to see if this is the right next step, the easiest way to find out is a call with Laura.

On the call, you’ll:

  • Talk through what’s happening with your team

  • Confirm whether Meeting Observation & Recommendations fits your situation

  • Answer any questions you have, no prep required

Even if you’re just exploring options, the call will help you decide what to do next.
